ITANAGAR, Feb 6: All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has strongly condemned the burning down of APSTS buses by unruly mob. In a release AAPSU President Takam Tatung has called on authorities to take strict action against the culprits as per the provision of law. Further he appealed to the citizens not to target state assets.
“APST buses are mostly used by poor citizens and student communities. Therefore, destruction of buses is a loss for the poor people of the state. I on behalf of student community of the state, appeal everyone to stop taking law into their own hand. Let rule of law prevail,” stated Tatung.
Arunachal Law Students Union (ALSU) has called on capital administration to arrest all the miscreants involved in the incident. Calling enough is enough; ALSU said time has come for capital police and administration to get tough on hooligans who are destroying government properties.
Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) while vehemently condemning the barbaric act of burning down of buses has expressed serious concern over frequent occurrence of such incident.
All Arunachal Pradesh Youth Organization has demanded immediate arrest of all culprits involved in bus burning incident and has threatened to launch democratic movement if the state govt fails to arrest the culprits at the earliest.
All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) also condemned the burning down of APST buses. The Federation appealed to the Capital SP to immediately arrest the culprits involved in the incident and also urged all the ministers, MLAs, Parliamentary Secretaries, NGOs and Students organizations to advise the young generation to avoid such act in near future. The Federation further appealed to the people to adhere with traffic rules and regulation to avert accident.
All Arunachal Pradesh Motor Transport Workers’ Union also condemned the incident and demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits. Meanwhile, it appealed to the drivers and bike riders to maintain speed limit for safe driving.
Students’ Union DNG College, Itanagar appealed to the state government to terminate the APST bus driver from his service and provide immediate relief assistance for better treatment of the accident victims. The union also condemned the alleged negligence on the part of security forces to rush the victims at hospital. It threatened to launch movement in case of failure of the Govt to fulfill its demand.

Orgs mourn death of Moter Jini Gamlin
ITANAGAR, Feb 6: Various organisations of the state today mourned the death of Dr Moter Jini Gamlin, wife of former Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin, who passed away at a private hospital, Guwahati yesterday evening after prolonged illness.
While condoling the death of Dr Moter Jini Gamlin, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee said, untimely demise of Dr Moter Jini Gamlin is a great loss to the Galo community, medical fraternity and the state as a whole.
“It is matter of sorrow and sadness for whole medical fraternity that Dr (Mrs) Moter Jini Gamlin, Senior Medical Officer (SG) and a member of Arunachal Pradesh Doctors Association (APDA) is no more in this world,” said Arunachal Pradesh Doctors Association (APDA) in a condolence message.
The selfless and dedicated services rendered to the public of the state during her service career will always be cherished by people of the state and medical fraternity in particular, APDA added.
Joining the mourners in expressing their deep sense of condolences at her untimely demise, MPs Mukut Mithi (Rajya Sabha), Takam Sanjoy and Ninnong Ering (Lok Sabha) today conveyed their deep shock at the death of their colleague’s wife, particularly a senior doctor in selection grade, which they described as an irreparable loss to the state and the society. Officers and staff of the Aalo District Medical Officer condoled the untimely death of Dr Moter Jini Gamlin. The staff members observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
The untimely demised of brilliant and dedicated lady Dr Moter Jini Gamlin is not only loss to family member but a great loss to whole state, said Nyishi Elite Society in its condolence message.

ITANAGAR, Feb 6: ‘Burn baby burn’ seems to be the new mantra for people of Arunachal to take out their frustration. During the last couple of month, many incidents of arson have been reported. It all begun on October 11, 2011 when many vehicles were burnt down in state capital after clashes broke out between two groups over so called peace rally. However the first major arson incident that shuddered the foundation of Arunachal was burning down of office of the SE Coordination PWD, Itanagar by unknown miscreants on November 4, 2011. On that same fateful night, 3 buses of Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Service (APSTS) parked in STS, Ganga was burnt down.
As usual innumerable number of unions, associations and organizations came out to condemn the incident. The political bosses of state led by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki promised strong action against miscreants and assured that such incident will not be allowed to repeat. The people of Arunachal forgot that incident as bad dream and moved ahead with their life.
However on 10th January, the office of Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission was set ablaze damaging seven rooms and giving heartache to many aspirant candidates.
To the utter shock of public, this month two major incidents of arson have rocked the state capital. The first incident took place on February 2nd when unknown miscreants torched Central Cattle Breeding Farm located in Nirjuli. The fire incident led to massive loss of government properties as farm equipment worth lakhs were gutted down. The department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary is one of the most neglected departments but of immense important for the poor tribal people of Arunachal. By damaging the properties of department, miscreants has inflicted deep wound on the heart and soul of tribal people who are so much dependent on Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department for the safeguard of domestic animals.
The February 4 night incident of burning down of four APSTS buses and damaging of many other has exposed the weakness of state machinery. The clashes broke out between police and angry mob after collision involving bike and APSTS bus carrying security personnel. Police and administration knew quite well that mob will target STS station Ganga. Despite that they did not deployed enough security forces. Some reports alleged that gun totting security personnel were present when mob attacked the STS station but they did not prevent the mob. The important question is what forced the capital police to go easy on those unruly mob? Why police did not deploy strong force at the STS station despite anticipating attack? Why there has been no statement from office of chief minister and parliamentary secretary home in this regard?
It is believed that majority of mob involved were college students from interior places of state. The victims’ friend had justified their act saying they burnt down buses in retaliation to lacklustre attitude of security personnel towards the accident victims.
No doubt security personnel should have immediately taken the victims to hospital. But there are so many better ways of protest. Is violence the only way of protest? These are the same college boys who bombards transport department with all sort of demand for transport service to the interior areas. If they burn down the APSTS buses, how can department provide bus service? It is a well known fact that despite SUVs flooding state capital, majority of poor Arunachalee depends on APST bus service to reach their home districts. By burning down APST buses, they are destroying the very lifeline of interior people of Arunachal.
This time also many unions, associations and organizations have come out to condemn the incident. Like the past incidents, no arrest has been made till date and people of Arunachal do not have much expectation from police in this regard. After few days people will forget about this incident and will move on. After all government properties have been damaged and who cares about government properties in Arunachal? The government’s weakness is encouraging many hooligans to get violent and in near future Arunachal will be known as “Fire Pradesh.”

This programme was organized to spread the message of Swami Vivekananda and to commemorate the year long celebration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda as well as silver jubilee celebrations of Vivekananda Study Circle.
On the first day of the programme sports and game were organized where the less privileged sections of the society proved that they are no less than the mainstreamers. They participated in spoon race (Girls); Toffee race (Girls); Dress up and go race (Boys); Blind hit for Blind children; 100 mtr & 200 mtr race (for both Boys & Girls); shot put (Boys & Girls) where the children of VSC also participated.
In the senior (from VII to X) category painting competition, first three positions were secured by Taba Tara, Class X; Tajum Sohi and Markar Kato. In the junior category, Lok Effa, Nabam Duping and Vikash Miroh bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

SEPPA, Feb 6: East Kameng Zilla Parishad Chairperson Sepi Bagang kicked off the Red Rockfest, a concert under Multi Media Campaign on HIV/AIDS at Abotani Manch here on December 30.

He urged the participants to take advantage of the capacity building training programme. An incentive of Rs.1000 per month per trainee will be given to boost the interest of the participants, he informed.
He further informed that one month basic and advance river rafting and guide training will be organized at Seppa from the first week of March. The programme is being sponsored by the Department of Tourism, Govt. of AP and the experts from the Sikkim Association of Adventure Tour Operators (SAATO) will impart the training. He appealed to the youths of the district to enroll for the training programme to make themselves experts in river rafting and guide so that the Kameng River which flows throughout the length of the district upto Balukpong can be harness for water ways. This will not only ease the discomfort of roadway but it will also provide an alternate route by means of river rafting in case of road blockade.
Farmers training workshop
ITANAGAR, Feb 6: A farmers’ training workshop on broiler poultry farming was organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Changlang under centrally sponsored scheme at the community hall Jairampur recently. Veterinary officers from Nampong, Manmao, Kharsang and Changlang imparted the training to 161 trainees, mostly women from Nampong, Jairampur and Manmao circles.

Governor seeks report in week time
ITANAGAR, Feb 6: Arunachal Pradesh Governor J J Singh has sought a detailed report from the Assam Rifles (AR) Director General on the alleged recruitment of Chakma and Nepali citizens by AR under ST quota reserved for Arunachalees during the recruitment rally held in September 2011 at Dimapur and Guwahati.
Raj Bhawan sources informed that the Assam Rifles authorities have been asked to submit their factual report within a period of one week.
It is worth mentioning here that the this Daily had unearthed the abnormality in AR recruitment process and published the report in its January 28 edition.
Three Chakma refugees and one Nepali citizen were recruited by the AR in various posts under ST quota reserved for Arunachalee youths. 12 houses gutted
ITANAGAR, Feb 6: At least 12 houses were gutted in a devastating fire incident at Rakha village under Yachuli circle, Lower Subansiri district on February 3, said All Yachuli Students' Union (AYSU) in a release today.

For us, door closed everywhere
Dear Editor,
In comparison to Science and Commerce graduates, Humanity graduate has less job opportunities. There is no go government job exclusively for the Arts graduate. The Govt job such as Accountant, R.F.O etc are only for the Commerce and Science graduates.
In Govt job where the Arts students are eligible to apply, students from other two streams can also compete with us. Doctor and engineer can also apply for those posts. But we cannot apply for the post of doctor, RFO or Accountant.
These increase numbers of competitor minimize job opportunities for the Arts students. Jobs of many government departments are exclusively for the other two streams.
Hence, we have to depend on clerical and other group –C category jobs, which are rarely advertised. But what is greatest problem for the Arts students for appearing job interview is written exam which includes Mathematics paper. After leaving Mathematics subject in 10th standard, it is very difficult for us solve Math’s problem in such exam.
Though concerned advertising department claims that Math’s paper of such exam
are of elementary nature, but if one see today’s Mathematics paper, it is of very
high standard and becoming more and more tough day by day. Here again candidates
of other two streams take maximum benefits who are of Math’s background. 7-
If doctors and engineers do not find government job, at least they can be engaged in Private establishments. But humanities graduate does not have such other alternatives. If Science and Commerce graduates do not get government job, at least they can earn some money through private tuition. But have any one heard about, any one taking History or Political Science tuition? For us, doors are closed everywhere. And where ever we have some free passage, Math’s paper blocks our way.
If one look into data, majority of graduates in the state are from Arts stream and majority of unemployed graduate are also from Humanities stream.
Therefore, we appeal to all the government departments, especially to APPSC not to keep Mathematics as one of the papers for any job interview where Arts graduates are eligible to apply. Or if it is not possible, make the math’s paper as qualifying nature i.e. 33 per cent out of hundred.
Hope, government will look into our problems and suggestions, if it is really concerned for the job scope of the Humanities graduate.

Dear Editor,
Apropos the news items published under the headlines “Students write to DA on encroachment” (Feb 2), I would like to affirm that the public of Lower Subansiri district are supporting All Lower Subansiri Students Union in their fight against illegal encroachment.
A daring step was initiated during the tenure of then Deputy Commissioner, Ziro by demolishing 3 number of RCC buildings at Hapoli township on Nov 1, 2005. The people of Ziro Valley opined that at least a committed officer has come to revive the beautiful Hapoli township by plucking up all the mushrooming illegal/unauthorized encroached construction. But alas, the hope of people died down and nothing was done by the administration.
Today, there is a ray of hope for the denizens of Lower Subansiri once again as the students union take up the matter with district administration. I appreciate the step taken by the union and hope that fight will continue till the uprooting of all the illegal construction on Govt. land.
ALSSU be an eye opener, I request them not to take rest till the goal is reached. It is your time.

Gender imbalance
The latest UNICEF report, Boys and Girls in the Life Cycle indicate that important gender imbalances exist in the population structure in some countries, particularly in parts of Asia, resulting in a higher deficit of girls than normal.

As far as secondary school education is concerned, girls are most disadvantaged in South Asia and boys are most disadvantaged in Latin America and the Caribbean.
